MOUNTAIN VIEW, Colo. (CBS4) – An on-duty police officer from the small Denver suburb Mountain View was shot a bar Sunday night and is recovering in the hospital.
The shooting happened just after 9 p.m. at the Jugz bar near 43rd and Sheridan, and the shooter allegedly shot himself afterwards and was hospitalized.
Police say they were responding to an emergency call about an auto theft suspect being at the bar, and when they tried to talk to the suspect the man pulled out a gun and shot the officer.
Shortly afterwards, police say the man then shot himself in the head.
Both the officer and suspect were taken to Denver Health Medical Center.
The officer was treated for non-life threatening injuries and so far the suspect’s condition is unknown.
The Jefferson County Critical Incident Team is investigating the crime.
Police said Monday morning the suspect’s name is Marcus Ray Martinez. Wheat Ridge police released a mug shot of him from a previous case.
