DENVER (AP) – Denver police have arrested a man suspected in a hit-and-run crash that killed a 32-year-old woman.
Police Chief Robert White said Thursday that 25-year-old Dennis Esquibel was in custody. District Attorney Mitch Morrissey says Esquibel faces charges including leaving the scene of a deadly accident. Formal charges likely won’t be filed until next week.
Laura McDermott was struck around 1 a.m. Sunday as she was crossing South Broadway.
On Tuesday, investigators released surveillance video that briefly showed the vehicle believed to have struck McDermott. The next day, workers spotted a car matching the description of the vehicle near railroad tracks in south Denver.

Investigators say Esquibel is the son of the vehicle owner. Esquibel’s mother is suggesting her son’s girlfriend was the driver.
