BOULDER, Colo. (CBS4) – “The Ratcracker” isn’t your traditional holiday show, but that doesn’t mean the kids won’t like it.
The show at the Dairy Center for the Arts in Boulder turns the plot of “The Nutcracker” on its head, with the rats winning in the end. It’s entertaining and funny for both kids and adults, and it features some beautiful choreography and low-flying trapeze work.
The performers in the show come from the Frequent Flyers Aerial Dance troupe, and they range in age from 8 to 55. The cast uses devices that include stilts, ropes, aerial fabric and bungees to wow the audience.
During the CBS4 Morning News on Thursday Catherine Bedell gave CBS4′s Justin McHeffey a lesson on how many of the aerial moves are done during the show at the Frequent Flyers practice facility.
The Ratcracker opens 7 p.m. Friday and runs through Dec. 9. Tickets start at $20.
As part of this year’s shows there will be a fundraiser for Frequent Flyers called Say Cheese! in which ticket buyers get to meet the cast, take part in a silent auction and try out the trapeze.
