(AP) — The police chief of Basalt has resigned, and his paid administrative suspension has been lifted with no finding of misconduct. Roderick O’Connor was placed on a paid leave in October, and the town asked Mountain State Employers Council to conduct a workplace investigation. Town officials and O’Connor haven’t disclosed circumstances leading to the suspension, but a statement Monday by the town government and O’Connor said the suspension didn’t involve any criminal law or civil rights violations. O’Connor’s resignation was effective Friday, and the parties say he resigned voluntarily. Town Attorney Tom Smith says O’Connor received a severance package worth $83,944. O’Connor tells the Aspen Daily News the suspension had taken him by surprise. He says resigning was a personal decision, and it was time to move on. (© Copyright 2012 The Associated Press.
