BOULDER, Colo. (CBS4) – Police are looking for vandals who targeted a fixture of the Boulder skyline that’s been around since 1947.
Every year Craig Reynolds from Lord and Reynolds Electrical Services has an important job.
“I started taking care of this in 1998,” Reynolds said.
He takes care of the Flagstaff Star that’s lit every holiday season on the side of Flagstaff Mountain.
“I like giving back to the community; it’s something I think everyone should do,” Reynolds said.
Reynolds, who is an electrician by trade – donates his time to take care of the star. But this year he’s got a lot of work ahead of him before the star is ready to shine again. Vandals destroyed a huge section of the display by smashing bulbs and ripping down cable and stripping wires.
Reynolds isn’t exactly sure when the vandalism happened, but believes it happened sometime after the display was turned off last winter
“It hurts. Why would anyone want to destroy, or for that matter, steal anything that belongs to somebody else? It’s just beyond me,” Reynolds said.
Reynolds says the star means a lot to the people of Boulder who’ve become accustom to it every holiday season and says he won’t let them down this year.
