It’s believed to be the first human case of the disease in Colorado in six years. It’s likely that Esierra Downing from Pagosa Springs picked up the plague at a campground. She’s now recovering at Rocky Mountain Hospital for Children in Denver. Rats and squirrels can carry the disease and infected fleas can spread it to humans.
